Olaplex - does it work? Does Olaplex have a chance to repair damaged hair by bleaching?

Olaplex is a hairdressing product aimed at regenerating hair damaged by bleaching. Olaplex can also be used as one of the dyeing or bleaching ingredients to minimise damage caused by the treatment.

The manufacturer of Olaplex promises that this product has the ability to rebuild damaged disulfide bonds in the hair, which become detached during bleaching.

How it's working?

Hair is made of keratin, a protein with a fiber structure (fibrillary). Additional strength is given to the hair by disulfide bridges, created thanks to the presence of cysteine, thanks to which the hair structure becomes cross-linked.

After the bleaching treatment, or as a result of long-term damaging effects of heat on the hair, the bond is broken. This bonding has a certain ability to reshape, so after aggressive treatments it is not recommended to wash your hair for a few days after carrying it out. The use of a bleach can block the re-formation of keratin due to its oxidizing properties.

Olaplex connects to the structure with ionic bonds, which are easily broken by changes in pH around them, and are generally not the strongest type of bond. Perhaps this is currently the biggest disadvantage of Olaplex - its effects can be easily destroyed by inadequate care.
